Renting and Thinking About Moving? Top 3 Signs that you NEED a New Place:

Renting and Thinking About Moving? Top 3 Signs that you NEED a New Place:

There are many reasons for wanting to move; a new job, moving closer to family and choosing a bigger home are among them.  Whatever the reason is for the decision to move, it often brings about a LOT of change all at once - but the results of moving make it all worth the effort.  Enjoy that new job, be closer to the ones you love, or have more space for the things you enjoy – all as a payoff of relocating.  Here are some reasons why moving might be the best thing you can do:

1) You "settled" for the place you are in now: Often times we end up just settling for a place just because we are so tired of searching! Make sure to check your local rent listing periodically and scan for units that have come available in ideal locations that may be cheaper than what you pay now.

2) Your space is too small: A small unit for a big family will really limit your storage space and make it feel like you have a ton of stuff - when in reality - you just have a small space. Finding a bigger place can make a huge difference in your quality of everyday living. The same can be said for the small families in a big home - they feel the need to fill it up – when in reality, downsizing may be better.

3) Location Location Location:  If you are living in a dangerous part of town, and have thought about moving - just move! Not feeling comfortable in our own home because of the neighborhood significantly affects peace of mind and well being.

Three Easy Ways to Get Organized NOW!

Three Easy Ways to Get Organized NOW!

1.  Make a “station” using a shelf or small table at your entrance and exit points for keeping things like keys, purses and backpacks easily accessible.  This will make mornings and appointment days much less stressful, and also provide more visual appeal than just a “pile” of stuff near the door.

2.  Sort through the clothing in your closets to make sure it is all stuff you would wear during the current season.  Keeping all summer clothes and shoes stored away during the colder months and vice versa frees up much-needed space in the closet.

3.  Think of all the areas in your home where clutter or junk always gathers and create a unique system of baskets or shelves to hold those types of items.  For example, if you have one corner where everyone seems to drop their jackets and hats, putting a coat rack there solves the mess.

Keeping your home organized and efficient doesn’t just happen overnight – even if someone comes in and transforms it for you there is no guarantee it will stay that way.  There must be a change in habits and an increased awareness of your surroundings in order to really get and stay organized.  Stay positive and choose to get motivated about your home today!

Some Musts for Avoiding Moving Day Disasters

Some Musts for Avoiding Moving Day Disasters:

In order to relocate your valuables, family, plants and pets with the least amount of stress and chaos, keep these important pointers in mind:

1.  Find out how your moving company feels about transporting and handling items such as jewelry, alcohol, firearms and grills.  Make plans accordingly to ensure these items are moved with care and ease with responsible help.

2.  Help your move go well for the kids as well by helping them clearly label their most important items.  A move is hard enough on children, and losing something precious to them will only make it worse.  Make sure they also keep their own “essentials” box of things they will keep with them in the car on the day of the move.

3.  If you have very sensitive plants that will need special care during your move, read up on tips and care suggestions.  Also make sure you re-pot the plants that sit in heavy breakable pots a few weeks before your move.  And if moving out-of-state, check that your specific plants are not restricted there.

4.  To keep your pets comfortable and safe during your move, plan ahead how you will transport them.  For some pets, a stay in the kennel may be the best option.  Make sure you have them checked out by a vet and that all shots are up to date as well.

Creative Ways to Protect Your Possessions When You Move

Creative Ways to Protect Your Possessions When You Move

No one wants to waste needed space and energy during a move. Here are some creative and simple ways to keep your items protected and use the things you need to move anyway to help you move with confidence.
1.  Use worn clothes to wrap up kitchen-ware such as plates, cups and platters.   You will conserve much bubble-wrap and eliminate at least a box of worn clothing!

2.  Stack your large plates vertically like file paper instead of lying them flat in order to minimize breakage.

3.  Use saran-wrap to seal the openings of creamy toiletries before replacing the cap and tying up the loose corners over it.  If the contents swell during the move and leak out, they won’t get all over everything.

4.  Put individual light-bulbs into sandwich bags before boxing up; if any of them shatter the mess is easy to throw out.  Also keep a box of new light bulbs just-in-case.

5.  Wrap up large mirrors in a blanket or thick duvet to prevent breakage.  If the blanket gets dirty it is much easier to clean it than it is to replace glass or to worry about all the clean-up.

Move Better with a Dolly

Move Better with a Dolly

Moving is hard enough without worrying about your back going-out or your appliances getting damaged.  A dolly is a great way to help ensure these things don’t happen, and here some ways you can get the most use out of your dolly.

1.  Measure your larger household items well, taking care to write down the depth and width too, then visit your local moving company or hardware store to rent a proper sized dolly.

2.  Gather your supplies ahead of time, especially enough ropes and tape.

3.  Have a few helpers ready to get your large and heavy appliances maneuvered out of your old place and into the new one with minimal damages.

4.  Never move any appliance, especially the refrigerator, on its side.  Keep them standing upright to ensure that all the tubing and liquids stay where they belong and cannot permanently cause damage.

5.  If you worry that you don’t have enough helping hands, your appliances are of unusual size or type, or there are stairs to maneuver, call a professional mover like Supportive Services of Oregon "Moving & Hauling".  They have years of experience helping people move with care for their items and home and can make your move a lot less stressful.
